What Cats Do Book Tag

Many thanks to Joanne at YAGuitarist for tagging me in this very fun challenge. We recently started following one another but always find some fun conversations and great posts when I check out her site. So now you should go there, too.

Rules

______________________________________________________________________________

PURR – As cats do this when they’re happy or relaxed, what is the book that makes you happiest or relaxed?

It’s generally a cozy mystery series. I’ve finished a few of them, but one I’m taking my time on is Joanne Fluke’s “Hannah Swensen” series. It’s very light and a bit on the border between mystery and romance (which I do not read), and Hannah’s inability to make a choice between Mike and Norman drives me nuts, but I always smile and feel at home when reading this series. And I’ve recently learned she has a third suitor and does get married a few books from now. Very exciting! And it was turned into a few TV movies with some semi-famous stars. Check it out.

SLEEP – What is a book that put you to sleep or was just boring?

I really struggled with Lisa See’s Peony in Love. It has so much ethereal language full of beautiful images and deep cultural history, but I nodded off a few times. Kate Morton writes similar books, but I absolutely love hers and have given them 5 of 5 stars. I should try another Lisa See novel, as a few people I respect have noted she has had some winners.

TWITCH WHILE DREAMING – Have you ever dreamed of a book you read?

No, I don’t think so. I tend not to dream all that much. I can’t remember the last time I did dream, nor what it was about. If I had to choose one, I’d say it would be something in the horror genre, as I love those, and occasionally they give me the creeps late at night.

SEEMS TO PLAY NICE…UNTIL THE CLAWS ARE OUT – Which book had the biggest plot twist?

Sally Hepworth’s The Mother’s Promise felt that way at two points in the book. I just didn’t expect what happened to happen. It was sneaky. Good writing.

CUDDLES – Which book character would you give a hug to?

Maya from Beartown. She’s innocent. She was hurt. And it felt like no one really cared about her enough to fix the problem.

CATNIP – What’s a book that made you have warm and fuzzy feels?

Amanda Prowse’s The Idea of You. Sometimes you don’t get what you ask for directly. And you learn to love it anyway.

CAT BREEDS – What are your favorite books?

You should check out my Favorites shelf on Goodreads. Includes the following books:

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  • Murder on the Orient Express
  • And Then There Were None
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
  • Night Over Water
  • The Turn of the Screw
  • Flowers in the Attic
  • World Without End
  • Great Expectations
  • The Book Thief
  • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
  • The Forgotten Garden
  • The Da Vinci Code
  • The Hunger Games
  • The Cat Who Could Read Backwards
  • The Philosopher’s Apprentice

THE VET’S OFFICE – Your least favorite book?

Barbara Gowdy’s The White Bone. Check out my review. You’ll know why… OMG!

BEING IN PLACES THEY SHOULDN’T – Least favorite cliche?

Dead people coming back from the dead. Overused plot device. Need to do something different.

THE GOOD OLD CARDBOARD BOX – Most Underrated book series?

Tough one…. Diane Mott Davidson’s “Goldy Bear Schultz Culinary” cozy mystery series has always been a good one to me.

Great answers! I’ve been eyeing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Book Thief for ages. Haven’t picked them up yet though. :/ I guess I should. After all, I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about them. 😀 I love The Hunger Games too. Both the novel and movies. It’s amazing how the movie adaptation is so similar to the book.

Okay! Another book added to my never ending TBR pile. But first, I need to get my hands on The Book Thief before I can start reading it. Thanks for the recommendations! 😀

I totally understand. That’s why I created the Book Bucket List. I had to have a top 12 for my TBR to guide me… so when it was time to buy a new book, or go to the library, I will choose at least 3 from there to search for, plus whatever else is on sale or looks good.

Oh, that is a very good idea! That way I wouldn’t just binge buy books but I actually get books that I want to read. 😀 Thanks!
