AWARD: Real Neat Blog

Posted on

Thank you very much to Jo-Ann at InspirationPie for nominating me for the Real Neat Blog Award. Jo-Ann and I met a little over a month ago and have connected on many topics through our blogs. And I even learned a bit more about her through this award. Please go check out her site as you will definitely find something fun and memorable that will keep you coming back for more. I’ve included the answers to the questions she was asked at the bottom of this post, so you can get to know her, too.

This award is designed for people who have a ‘real neat blog’.  Those participating should:
-Put the award logo on your blog
-Thank the people who nominated you, linking to their blogs
-Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you
-Nominate any number of bloggers you like, linking to their blogs
-Let them know you nominated them (by commenting on their blog, etc)
-Ask your nominees 7 questions

Questions Posed to Me

  • How long have you been blogging?

    • 10 months. I created a basic site last August but only posted a couple of times. In October, I imported 100 book reviews from Goodreads and then designed the site throughout November and December. I began connecting with people in February, so I would say I’ve been an active blogger for about 5 months.
  • What inspires you to blog?

    • To connect with other people all across the world.
    • To learn new things about myself.
    • To grow confidence in my writing skills.
    • To inspire others through the 365 Daily Challenge.
  • What is your favorite book genre?

    • Mysteries. I could read them all the time. And when you add some suspense, thrill and historical components, it’s like perfection.
  • What are you reading now?

    • Watch Me Disappear by Janelle Brown. It’s a mystery about a wife and mother who disappeared and is about to be declared dead; however, her daughter and husband begin to believe she may be alive when they find some things she left behind that point to her creating a second life.
  • Are you and introvert or an extrovert?

    • I’ve always said I’m an introvert, but I do have 10% of me that can be an extrovert. And it seems that percentage is increasing in the last few months.
  • Who is your favorite author?

    • I have 4 right now: Agatha Christie, Ken Follett, Kate Morton and Henry James.
  • Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled to?

    • I love England for the beauty and charm of the Cotswolds.
    • I love Cambodia for the natural slice of life I experienced when visting.
    • I love Argentina for the vineyards and culture.

My Nominees & Questions For This Award

I wanted to nominate several people, but I decided to pick just one person this time, as I’ve been nominating a lot on other awards and tags. The one site I spent some time on this week who I felt was deserving is…

  1. What is the one thing you want to change about your blog?
  2. What is your next major goal in life?
  3. What book do you always turn to when you need a good read?
  4. If you could write a blog with someone else, who would it be?
  5. What are the 3 top qualities you look for in new friends?
  6. What attracts you to a new blog?
  7. How much time on average do you spend blogging each week?

Jo-Ann’s Questions & Responses

What is your favorite color?

Teal.  Or blue.  Or turquoise.  Along those lines.  Seems everything I have lately is one of those colours!  My phone case, my fireplace, my front door, my hair.

What is nickname?

Most people call me by Jo-Ann but some call me Jo.

Which place on earth you never wanna go?

The Arctic.  Or Antarctica.  I really don’t like the cold!

Do you believe in god?

I believe there is an energy that is greater than us and ties us all together.

What is the best moment of your life?

Watching my children grow.  Does that count as one moment?  It sure seems to be!

What would you choose Short fiction or novels?

Definitely novels.  I love getting totally immersed in a story!

If you ever wanna go back in time in what would you change?

Oh, gosh…tough one! Maybe I would start writing earlier.

I’m about 50% thru. It’s a little bit of a slow start, as I wasn’t sure (and still not certain) where it’s going. From the book jacket, we know the mother is missing and may be dead. The daughter is having visions of the mother… so I can’t tell if it’s going the fantasy route, the psychological route or just offering up some alternate reality. But the writing is good and the characters feel real. I should finish it tomorrow.

Great answers, Jay! How cool that you went to Argentina and Cambodia! I’m sure they were amazing.
The only authors of your favourites that I know are Agatha Christie. I am going to make a point of checking out the others. I’m looking forward to your review of Watch me Disappear. Looks intriguing!

    Great job!

Thank you. Follett is amazing. If you like historical fiction and mystery, check out “Night Over Water.” His other good ones are all trilogies and lengthy novels, but this is a single book, probably around 450 pages. Amazing story lines. Morton is also brilliant. The Forgotten Garden is such a beautiful story. Henry James is classics… so be prepared for 150 year old literature!

Cambodia… the floating village and the monasteries… won’t ever forget them.
