AWARD: Sunshine Blogger #8

Posted on Updated on

Alex @ Coffee Loving Bookaholic nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award today, but I had just completed one earlier today. Rather than duplicate my post, my way to say thank you is to share her answers via Press This!

Please check out her post below. And thank you for the nomination! 🙂
I picked 1 of the 12 questions to answer:

Are you more productive in the morning or in the evening/night?

Definitely night. I am not a morning person. Takes me a bit of time to wake up even after 3 cups of coffee!!!

Many thanks to Patty @ Moohnshine’s Corner for including me on the Who am I? tag. I adore Patty, who has been one of my 365 Daily Challenge Recommended Bloggers, so you must already know her. But if by chance you didn’t see that post or haven’t connected with her, please go check it out now!

What does my name mean?

James is my given name, and I am the fourth in the male line with the name ‘James John’ which means it’s definitely a rooted family name. I’m not sure there will be a fifth.

For a bit of humor, I checked the ‘Urban Dictionary’ to see what my name meant. It said that I was a very attractive guy and women always love me. I’m not really sure what to do with this definition, so I’m just gonna ignore it. It said a few other things that although I’d love to copy/paste them here, I might offend a few people, so I’ll just leave the link:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=James

I’ve always known the name as being Hebrew, coming from the Bible, and meaning “one who follows.” I’ve not ever thought of myself as a follower, so that’s unusual. One for the books, I suppose!

July Update: Monthly Wrap Up

Posted on

It’s been 11 months since I created my “This-Is-My-Truth-Now” WordPress blog and website, but I’ve only been an active blogger since February of 2017, so I’m really @ my 6-month anniversary. Nonetheless, another month is complete and below is my July Wrap-up!

july

Key Metrics in July 2017

  • Site Metrics – NEW for this MONTH
    • 12,101 – Views (Grand Total of 40,029)
    • 3,604 – Visitors (Grand Total of 10,990)
    • 246 – Followers (Grand Total of 986*)
    • 6,022 – Likes (Grand Total of 20,001)
    • 2,473 – Comments (Grand Total of 6,200)
    • 80  – Posts (average of 2.75 per day, Grand Total of 786)

Note: The # of posts went down a lot because I completed all my older book reviews last month and no longer had to keep interfacing them from Goodreads. When Publicize adds in *Twitter counts, it shows I have over 2K followers. My likes went down by 5%, but since the # of my posts went down significantly, it’s huge increase this month in the ratio of followers to likes. Wow!

*** July 2017 has officially been the blog’s best and most popular month! ***

Books Read in July 2017

In the month of July, I only read 5 books. I planned to read more, but since I started writing my second novel, I haven’t had as much time to read. I also hit my 80% rate on NetGalley again, only to drop down today by a percent because I was awarded two new ARCs. I don’t think this is manageable anymore! LOL

Film / TV Show Reviews

I did nothing… tags and awards took up all my time!

Genre / Author / Series Spotlight

I create an author page, list all the books or series they’ve written, link my reviews and provide a summary and overview of my experiences with the books.

  • I did nothing… tags and awards took up all my time!

Book Bucket List

I continued the book bucket list project where I will keep a running list of 12 books that I must read before I die. Each of the 12 books is assigned a month when I will read it and post a review. Once completed, I’ll cross it off the list and add a new book for the next month:

  • Book Bucket List
    • Reading “The Bear & The Nightingale”
    • Planning to add a book next week and will post on it soon.
      • Suggestions?

What Age Do I Read This Book?

I created a new series to recommend by genre, what are the best books to read by age, covering a range of 12 years for each post.

  • I did nothing… tags and awards took up all my time!

AWARD: Unique Blogger #5

Posted on Updated on

Many thanks to Charles French for nominating me for this award. I have been nominated before, but these are different questions, which means I want to share it with everyone. But everyone should check out his site to see all the cool and informative posts he shares throughout the week on reading and writing. Always learn something new!

THE RULES:

  • Share the link to the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  • Answer the questions.
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 15 people and notify them.
  • Ask them three questions.

THE QUESTIONS:

1.) What is one goal you hope to achieve with your blog?

  • To meet new people across the world who share my vision, humor and outlook on life. I want to find strong and positive connections and build friendships and a following for the future.

2.) If you could travel anywhere, with money as no issue, where would you go?

  • I’m thinking it’s time I took an Alaskan cruise, maybe stop at the North Pole and explore parts of upper Canada. Sound fun?

3.) If you could have a conversation with a character from a work of fiction, who would it be?  What would you like to talk about?

  • I’d like to talk with Robert Langdon from Dan Brown’s novels so he could teach me all the ancient secrets and puzzles. Then I could solve more on my own!

MY QUESTIONS:

  1. What quality do you admire the most in others?
  2. What has been the most memorable moment of your life thus far?
  3. What’s new for your blog?

About Me & the “365 Daily Challenge”

I’m Jay and I live in NYC. By profession, I work in technology. By passion, I work in writing. I’ve always been a reader. And now I’m a daily blogger. I decided to start my own version of the “365 Daily Challenge” where since March 13, 2017, I’ve posted a characteristic either I currently embody or one I’d like to embody in the future. 365 days of reflection to discover who I am and what I want out of life.

The goal: Knowledge. Acceptance. Understanding. Optimization. Happiness. Help. For myself. For others. And if all else fails, humor. When I’m finished in one year, I hope to have more answers about the future and what I will do with the remainder of my life. All aspects to be considered. It’s not just about a career, hobbies, residence, activities, efforts, et al. It’s meant to be a comprehensive study and reflection from an ordinary man. Not a doctor. Not a therapist. Not a friend. Not an encyclopedia full of prior research. Just pure thought, a blogged journal with true honesty.

I’m very appreciative of her comments, ideas and posts… always something with personality and a clever approach.

AWARD: Black Cat Blue Sea #3

Posted on Updated on

Many thanks to Invisible-No-More for nominating me for this award. It’s a really fun one with a cool image. Please check out her site as she has a stellar intro all about herself and why she’s chosen to blog. Go meet someone very interesting and thoughtful! It’s not every day you’ll find a personal journey that someone is willing to share.

What Is This Award

This award is for bloggers who strive to write for everybody, and no matter how many viewers they get, make an impact on a reader. This award is an expression of gratitude to the nominee. It should be awarded to anybody that you choose deserves it, and it doesn’t mean that they must have hundreds of followers and likes.

Rules

  • anybody nominated can nominate up to eight other bloggers
  • the nominee answers three questions posed by the nominator
  • the questions you ask while nominating can be any three questions

Questions to me

  • Where do you look for inspirations for your blog posts?
    • I think about lessons I’ve learned and people who have done something remarkable and generous. I figure out what needs to be shared between both of those items, and then I try to find a way to blog about it in a meaningful way. Sometimes it fails. Sometimes it works.  In the end, I want there to be fun and a moment of shared thoughts about something important or impacting — in a positive way.

  • How has your blog changed / evolved over time? Was the change in line with your expectations?
    • It is not in line at all! When I first started, I thought I’d have a few followers on cozy mystery books. Suddenly, it involved into tags, awards, 365 Daily Challenges, my own novels, and a whole bunch of other things. I’m not even sure how it happened or what prompted all the growth. But I love it and apart from a few days where I cannot conjure the perfect topic, it’s been an amazing experience.

  • What would you like to be doing in the future? Are you still blogging?
    • Yes, I think I will always blog. It might change to a weekly post, and it may be more about my writing, but I want to connect with people thru my words. What do you want to hear about from me?

Questions to you

  1. What is your next big blogging goal?
  2. What is the first thing you do FOR YOURSELF every morning?
  3. Where do you go when you need a good wake-up call or advice?

Nominees

Note: I chose only 3 people for this award as I was nominated earlier in the week for it. But since there were different questions, I wanted to participate again. So I pass it on to another 3 very inspirational bloggers!

AWARD: One Lovely Blog #2

Many thanks to Yellow Fuzzy Duck @ Turtle Desk for nominating me for this award. With a blog name like this one, how could you not go checkout the site? Seriously… Turtles and Ducks. How fun!!

Rules of the Award

  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2. Share 7 facts about yourself
  3. Nominate 15 bloggers and inform them of the nomination

Seven Facts

  1. I taught children how to bowl years ago. I was in a bunch of leagues and had a 200+ average.
  2. I’m currently sitting on my couch half-dressed (as in shorts but no shirt, only 1 sock and shoe) because I was trying to go to the gym when I had a phone call a few minutes ago. After the call, I forgot I was going to the gym and just sat back down to type this post, not realizing I hadn’t finished putting clothes on. I need to finish it so I can get fully dressed and go to the gym. Thought you needed a laugh mid-way thru this post. 🙂
  3. I have hazel eyes. They seem to change color based on whatever colors I wear.
  4. Other than writing, I have no artistic talent when it comes to painting, drawing, music or photography. I’m bad!!!
  5. I am contemplating getting a sibling for Ryder, my nearly ten-year old shiba inu dog. He won’t be thrilled about this!
  6. I just hit 2000 followers which is incredibly strange given how shy I can be in person.
  7. I used to have 4 piercings. I no longer have any. Some days it’s sad as I want them back. Other days, I want to get a tattoo instead. 😛
