AWARD: Sunshine Blogger #7

Posted on

Many thanks to Claire @ BrizzleLass Books for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Claire is fantastic… she was recently my Recommended Blogger to know for the 365 Daily Challenge… so if you missed that post, click here to check it out and learn more about Claire.

My Questions

  • You can live anywhere in the world, where do you choose?
    • Cotswolds, so I could visit you!

  • What are you reading right now?
    • Two books:
      • The Bear and the Nightingale
      • If the Creek Don’t Rise

  • What was the last live music show you went to?
    • It’s been a really long time for a concert. Maybe Dolly Parton in June, 2016. I see Broadway shows all the time!

  • If you weren’t a book blogger, what would you blog about?
    • 365 Daily Challenge, but I’d make it even bigger!

  • What is top of your bucket list?
    • I have a Book Bucket List… but I doubt that’s what you meant.
    • I’d love to see either the North or South Pole.

  • What is your autobiography called?
    • Duality in One — cause I always feel like two different people!

  • What’s your favourite season?
    • Autumn… perfect weather, perfect colors, perfect temperature, perfect smells… just perfect

  • Coffee or Tea?
    • Coffee… a few cups per day… or don’t talk to me

  • Chocolate or Wine?
    • I won’t answer it. Not fair. You are so mean. We’re never speaking again.
    • Both. At the same time. There. I said it.

  • Walk or Cycle?
    • Walk. I never understood cycling. Where do you get when you cycle? I assume you mean a fixed bike. But if you meant a real bicycle, I haven’t done that in 20 years, so still walking. I’m old. Leave me alone.

  • Finally, your favourite book this year?
    • You by Caroline Kepnes.

About Me & the “365 Daily Challenge”

I’m Jay and I live in NYC. By profession, I work in technology. By passion, I work in writing. I’ve always been a reader. And now I’m a daily blogger. I decided to start my own version of the “365 Daily Challenge” where since March 13, 2017, I’ve posted a characteristic either I currently embody or one I’d like to embody in the future. 365 days of reflection to discover who I am and what I want out of life.

The goal: Knowledge. Acceptance. Understanding. Optimization. Happiness. Help. For myself. For others. And if all else fails, humor. When I’m finished in one year, I hope to have more answers about the future and what I will do with the remainder of my life. All aspects to be considered. It’s not just about a career, hobbies, residence, activities, efforts, et al. It’s meant to be a comprehensive study and reflection from an ordinary man. Not a doctor. Not a therapist. Not a friend. Not an encyclopedia full of prior research. Just pure thought, a blogged journal with true honesty.

Join the fun and read a new post each day, or check out my book reviews, TV/Film reviews or favorite vacation spots. And feel free to like, rate, comment or take the poll for each post. Note: All written content is my original creation and copyrighted to me, but the graphics and images were linked from other sites and belong to them. Many thanks to their original creators.

AWARD: Real Neat Blog #2

Posted on Updated on

Many thanks to Mischenko for nominating me for the Real Neat Blog Award. I gushed over her in a post earlier today, and if I do it anymore, she won’t believe me. So… just go check it out and don’t tell her you know me! 🙂

neato

 Here are the rules:

1. Put the award logo on your blog.

2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.

3. Thank the person who nominated you

4. Nominate 7 people

5. Ask 7 questions

My Questions:

1. What’s something you find yourself worrying about or thinking about frequently?

  • Whether or not I will be a successful author, or if I’ll go back to working in corporate technology and operations. I think about other stuff, but lately, this has been a key thing on my mind.

2. If you had to change your name, what would it be and why?

  • I am the 4th in a row of males with my name, so I want something much more distinct and unusual… Ethan, Zachary, Caleb…

3. Are you doing a reading challenge? If so, where are you with it?

  • Yes, Goodreads. I bid two per week, or 104 books. I am at 62, which is 3 ahead of where I should be. Link is here.

4. What’s your favorite fruit and favorite vegetable.

  • Avocado and Banana. You can figure out which is which… oh wait, I think they are both fruits. Um… let’s throw carrots in there, too.

5. Which fictional character would be the most boring to meet in real life?

  • There are tons since I’ve read so many books… let’s see… perhaps books about boring people… oh, I don’t read those kind! LOL I can’t think of one.

6. What’s something your brain tries to make you do and you have to stop yourself from doing it?

  • My brain tries to get me to organize everything in sight. I have to stop myself or I’d be organizing my garbage. And that’s just disgusting.

7. If you could stand in front of the entire human race, what piece of advice would you choose to express?

  • Judgment gets you no where. Focus on your own life. Let others do what they want. And when you do this, everyone seems a little bit happier.

TAG: I’m a Rock Star

Posted on Updated on

Many thanks to Claire @ BrizzleLass Books for tagging me on this cool tag. She chose to torture me with this one, as I have no musical talent whatsoever, which means my answers will be an epic failure. But I don’t back away from challenges, so all I can say is… if you are reading this, as a favor, please torture Claire with tons of new follows that cause her hours of time learning about and meeting new people. 🙂  ‘Cause she deserves it for being a… really cool friend from the UK who I seem to share a lot in common with!

What is the name of your band, or if you are a solo artist, your stage name (example: Lady Ga Ga, Snoop Dog, Puddles the Clown, etc…)?

  • Duality of Conflict, as I am two people inside of one, trying to merge them into someone sane that others find interesting and amusing. Is it working? La La La, La La LAAAAA

What genre or style of music are you known for?

  • Nothing. I am quite eclectic in my music taste. In a matter of 30 minutes, I’ll listen to Dolly Parton’s Hard Candy Christmas, Lady Gaga’s Alejandro, Chicago, Usher, Pink, Les Mis, and Snoop Dogg. I tend to listen to lots of varied artists!

What instrument do you play or are you the lead singer?

  • I play this really cool instrument called silence. I am amazing at this particular one. Very few people can play it as well as I can. So much so, I’m actually famous for being able to play silence better than anyone. Let’s test that out right now. 3, 2, 1…

<< Oh, are you still there? This is me playing my instrument…. La La La, La La La… >>

If you could be the opening act for any band currently touring who would it be?

  • Hmmm… I’d like to meet Adam Levine from Maroon 5, so I suppose that would be a good opportunity. Who wouldn’t? There’s nothing wrong in the picture below. The open shirt. The tattoos. The facial hair. The chain. The low-slung jeans. The flawless skin. The ripples. The dark expression. Oh… I can’t. Just can’t.

levine.jpg

I mean seriously… I have to stop looking at this right now so I can finish the post.

Who would you name as your musical inspiration? This person can be currently breathing, or not.

  • I am tone deaf, so I have a feeling anyone I chose would sound offensive. I’ll bow out of this question and say “Isn’t (s)he so cool?”

What special item do you ask for in your dressing room on a tour contract rider?

  • Air conditioning. Everywhere. Even if the temperature is under 60 degrees. Being cold is better than hot anytime!

What item from home do you pack in your suitcase to take on tour?

  • Laptop. Must be able to write. And I’ll follow Claire’s lead and select a second item: Dark Chocolate. I’ll do anything for it. ANYTHING. Do you hear me, Adam?

choco.jpg

What does your stage attire look like?

  • If I had to answer this question honestly… if that were my profession… I’d be in the gym a bit more… and I’d be shirtless and in a pair of gym shorts. No shoes. Totally comfy and relaxed. Just chillin’ on stage as though the entire world was having fun. Except me, cause I’d be singing, and I can’t do that, so bad that people run.

What backstage nickname have the roadies given you based on your personality?

  • Mystery Man

Every successful rockstar has a special charity. What’s yours?

  • Pet Care — want to take care of them all!

What is the title of your memoir going to be?

  • No One Ever Knew (he was so awesome)

Note: I’m being funny here. I really do not have an ego at all.

Nominations

I have nominated thee below but this isn’t book related and I haven’t a clue if all of you are into music so please don’t feel obligated!

AWARD: Unique Blogger #4

Posted on Updated on

Many thanks to Jenn at ReadRantRock&Roll for nominating me for this award. Jenn is one of my favorite bloggers. We interact daily on various social media platforms, always sharing ideas and learning new things. She was one of my first 365 Daily Challenge Recommended Bloggers I told everyone about. Go check her out!

The Rules

  • Share the link to the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  • Answer the questions.
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
  • Ask them three questions.

Questions To Me

1. If you were to write a non-fiction book, what would be your subject of choice?

  • Family History or Genealogy… it’s what I know the most about!

2. Name a book that you extremely disliked this year, or last?

  • The Witches by Stacy Schiff. I kept crossing the line of fiction and non-fiction to the point where it was frustrating. I couldn’t stay focused. It’s rare I EVER put a back down, but I tried no less than 3 times and couldn’t handle this one.

withces.jpg

3. Which author would you enjoy meeting the most? Doesn’t have to be living.

  •  Ken Follett. His imagination is incredible, but grounded in reality and focused on historical fiction. It’s just beautiful to read.

AWARD: Black Cat Blue Sea #2

Posted on

Many thanks to The Living Book Tree for nominating me for the Black Cat Blue Sea Award. I’ve been nominated once before, but this is a different set of questions, so I thought it would be fun to participate.

acat

What exactly is the Black Cat Blue Sea Award?

This award is for bloggers who strive to write for everybody, and no matter how many viewers they get, make an impact on a reader. This award is an expression of gratitude to the nominee. It should be awarded to anybody that you choose deserves it, and it doesn’t mean that they must have hundreds of followers and likes.

Rules

Anybody nominated can nominate up to eight other bloggers
the nominee answers three questions posed by the nominator
the questions you ask while nominating can be any three questions
if any of the questions asked are offensive or the nominee simply does not want to answer, the nominee does not have to answer them to earn the award

The Questions & My Answers:

1.What is your guiltiest pleasure?

  • Probably food and liquor. I have a hard time saying no to chocolate, bread and cheese, champagne or cake. When I am super happy or super sad, I immediately for them. 🙂

2. What is your greatest joy in life?

  • My friends and family. My dog, Ryder.

3. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 13-year-old self?

  • It’s a waste of time and energy to hide who you are from other people. The only person who loses out is you. When you add up the minutes, it seems such a loss to give away time to others who are probably either not worth it or who will be very understanding and happy no matter who you are. Be yourself and the world will find a way to love you.

My additional questions are:

1. If you could take one character from one book and put it in another who would it be and why?

  • I would put Harry Potter in a romance novel. I’d love to see what 18-year old Harry would do with that kind of trouble… maybe he’d use his wand to send the girl away, or he’d fall in love and be a dashing stud. Either way, it’d be hilarious to see how it all played out!

2. What can’t you live without during the summer?

  • Air Conditioning. I hate the heat more than anything else in my life… and if I sweat, when I’m in public, I am a miserable guy. There are a few situations I don’t mind sweating in, but that’s a topic for another day.

3. What would you say to someone that is in a reading slump?

  • Message me. We’ll go through my top 10 books and find the perfect match. I know how to pick really strong ones, so I feel confident that I’ll kick the slump’s a$$ out the door.

The Ones I Challenge:

Note: You can pick any of 4 of these 6 questions to answer!!!
