365 Challenge: Day 248 – Medium

Posted on Updated on

Medium: (a) halfway between two extremes of size or another quality; average, (b) psychic, or (c) an agency or means of doing something

medium

I had a few items on my mind for today’s 365 Daily Challenge word, and when I thought about how to connect it together, the word ‘medium’ quickly came to mind. Here’s why:

  • Medium as Average
    • I’ve posted before that I have always felt average, which in my mind is a good thing. It means you do well in some things, you are improving in others and you are the all-around good person in all that you do. That’s me! I like it.
    • Lots of book reviews are coming in and it’s kind of nerve-wracking to see people’s thoughts and opinions. Sometimes it’s just ratings without any explanation. On the Amazon and Goodreads scale of 1 to 5, the middle / medium / average would be a 3, which usually means the person thinks it’s a good book you’d probably recommend. I give 3’s out all the time to books I enjoyed but didn’t totally move me for any particular reason. As my book reviews come in, I see a string of 5’s, then 3’s and some 4’s. All in all, it’s averaging a 4.6 with about 75 reviews so far. I shouldn’t be so worried, but I am because it’s about my work. Then I remember… I’m new, it’s a debut and I like medium!
  • Medium as Psychic
    • I’ve gone to a few psychic readers in the past, mostly out of fun. I’m not really sure I believe in it wholeheartedly, but I also don’t know enough about the subject. I find it fascinating and like to see how each performs, thinks, delivers and reads to the patrons.
    • Both psychics told me I would publish books — without any prompting. Maybe they read something into my clothes or words and figured it out. Who knows… but I love hearing other people’s thoughts on the whole psychic medium.  Please share if you believe, attended or dislike!
  • Medium as Form for Artists
    • Artists have different mediums they work in. Today, I want to share two (2) new mediums in which you can check out related to Watching Glass Shatter news.
      • Conscious Talk Magazine: An excellent online journal and magazine with all the typical features, news and information… however, it has even more than that. I’m a big fan already and the best part… some of our fellow bloggers work there as writers and editors. I will be doing a spot on them in the coming week, but you should check out an article written by the lovely Didi Oviatt, who happens to be this coming Friday’s Author Alert. You can read a fun message from me about the book and my life via this link. And just to make your world spin a little, today’s Blog Tour Poster (11) is Jina, who is also a writer at the magazine.
      • Artist First Radio Broadcast: An internet radio station that has over a million subscribers. They have 90K listeners to their Author’s First segments which air on Tuesdays. I was the guest last night talking all about my family life and the family drama in the book. You can listen to my interview with the amazing DJ — you will love his charismatic voice — via this recording.

What a word! MEDIUM: share a little bit about all of today’s topics. What’s on your mind?

About Me & the “365 Daily Challenge”

I’m Jay, an author who lives in NYC. My debut novel, Watching Glass Shatter, can be purchased on Amazon @ http://mybook.to/WGS. I’ve always been a reader. And now I’m a daily blogger. I decided to start my own version of the “365 Daily Challenge” where since March 13, 2017, I’ve posted a characteristic either I currently embody or one I’d like to embody in the future. 365 days of reflection to discover who I am and what I want out of life.

The goal: Knowledge. Acceptance. Understanding. Optimization. Happiness. Help. For myself. For others. And if all else fails, humor. When I’m finished in one year, I hope to have more answers about the future and what I will do with the remainder of my life. All aspects to be considered. It’s not just about a career, hobbies, residence, activities, efforts, et al. It’s meant to be a comprehensive study and reflection from an ordinary man. Not a doctor. Not a therapist. Not a friend. Not an encyclopedia full of prior research. Just pure thought, a blogged journal with true honesty.

Join the fun and read a new post each day, or check out my book reviews, TV/Film reviews or favorite vacation spots. And feel free to like, rate, comment or take the poll for each post. Note: All written content is my original creation and copyrighted to me, but the graphics and images were linked from other sites and belong to them. Many thanks to their original creators.

i don’t know. everytime someone says, that a three star rating isn’t good, i cringe. because three stars is still good. it’s average but it doesn’t mean, that the person didn’t like it. there were issues which everyone of us has with books. sometimes it’s the personal situation, or the emotional state that has influence on a book. but three stars is still good. don’t worry about that jay! as you can see, people love your book. and that are people who are important!! 🙂

Thank you! It’s such a hard scale with only 5 options. I even have my own definition listed on GR and on WP for my view of the stars. A 3 is still quite good. I can’t give 5’s to everything…I save them for those books that blow me away to the point I can’t stop talking about it. So I’m almost always going to give a book a 3 or 4 unless it’s THAT AMAZING or THAT BAD. It’s rare. Plus, there are so many style differences and genres differences.

yeah, that’s the thing too. everybody has their own rating system. different reasons for rating it this and that. so don’t look at the rating that much 🙂

Medium to me is safety – middle of the road. Not to one extreme or the other. I have been to mediums as in psychics too and it was really interesting and thought provoking as to what was revealed which was specifically true. So here’s my 2 cents on the word! 🙂

I think so many people forget that most people and things and situations are medium, or average. Yet no one wants to be labeled as such. its funny, we I was novel writing before, I talked about a characters hands, and I wrote 3 lines about how his hands were medium sized and average. And it was weird as I was writing it, because I normally read about men’s hands being big and powerful, so I felt like I was going against the grain, especially as I want to have this guy appear manly.
But anyway. I’ve had my cards read once. Very interesting. She made an odd prediction that I really thought was going to come true fow awhile there. One day I may write about it. We should go for tea and readings though- Would be fun to see if they think we’re a couple. On another note, I was on 23rd street in Chelsea and I passed a psychic place. The sign said buzzer broken, please knock, and I couldn’t help but think- gee- if they’re psychic, wouldn’t they know you were there?

That is too funny about the knocking. I think we should have our leaves read and go for tea. A perfect December outing!

As for the hands and the character, dare to be different. Your words will make it believable and show a very different, but potentially strong, character! (no pun intended on strong!)

I haven’t been to a medium but I do use tarot cards sometimes. Of course I am picking my own interpretation for what the cards “tell” me. My preferred medium for artistic crafts is paper and paper products. I think 3 stars is a good rating and one that most people would give. I’m currently striving to get into a size medium instead of large or Xtra large 🙂

I always love your responses. Fun/Quirky, honest and revealing in a good way. 🙂 I like tarot cards but haven’t been to anyone who does them in YEARS! Pen and Paper is a GOOD medium. 🙂

I found a set of Sherlock Holmes tarot cards and I was picking them at the beginning of the week to help with my focus. I’ve written a few posts about them but they may have been before you and I connected.

Yay to your radio spot, you were a pro!
Psychics? Nooooooo not for me. Not even for fun. I do believe in them, I also believe there are a lot of hacks. But I have zero interest in knowing or being told anything about my life. Someone gave me a tarot reading when I was 16 and it freaked me out so much I’ve stayed away from everything like it since.

So happy your book is doing well. It’s rewarding I’m sure, and good wishes for more to come. I’ve never been to a medium. The closest I got was a school PTA carnival! Good news, J.

Not exactly. It was my friend in the getup and a crystal ball. I’ve always thought it might be frightening to hear the future. Guess I’m more spontaneous than that? 😂

I like mediums, except psychics. I do not do ANYTHING supernatural because of what I DO know about that stuff. I don’t read books with it, watch it or listen to it. My knowledge about it comes from the Bible, and from people who I know personally who have been affected by things related to spiritism through no fault of their own. It’s nothing to play with. And that’s all I have to say about that.

LOL….you might not agree, and I understand. Many people see it as harmless fun. But if you knew what I do, you would most probably change your mind. Trust me on that one. LOL.

Nevertheless, I’m happy for you and the success of your first novel. Great job on everything you’ve been doing!! I’m sure it’s contributed to your success, and you should be proud. ( :
