365 Challenge: Day 362 – Installment

Posted on Updated on

Installment: new series on my blog with a story where several parts could be published or made public in sequence at intervals

In our countdown, we have four 365 Daily Challenge posts left… and today’s word is installment. As you’ve probably guessed, I love a good challenge and often over commit myself to tasks on my to-do list. It should go with no surprise that I will want something to push my envelope (eh, buttons?) and force me to write a specific post at regular intervals just like I’ve done in this challenge. And so… I’m strongly considering releasing a regular web serial where I can highlight my creative writing to share with existing readers and help find new ones. A few things come to mind:

  • Should it be weekly, every other week, or monthly? My primary concern is that if I’m writing part of a story each week, I really can’t go back to change anything from prior installments… I’d need to have several months planned in advance (which I don’t have fully written at the moment), so this is a work-in-progress theory right now.
  • It will be a mystery novel… cozy but not too cozy… somewhere in the middle to appeal to a wide audience. I have 30% of two separate books drafted and plan to re-read what I’ve written next week before deciding which to focus on. The first is set on a college campus, the second is about a large family of cousins who get into lots of fun trouble. Both deal with murder mysteries, but they’re also about relationships and the more relaxed and fun side of life.
  • Is there really interest for this? I wouldn’t want to publish it in installments if readers aren’t fans of waiting each week to see what happens. I also would need to figure out how to protect my copyright and/or not have something stolen. Thoughts?

Part of the reason for this is to keep my “on the fly” writing skills current, as well as feel that giant push to write even if I feel like being lazy. I can see building a setting, cast and story online via my blog for the first book, then launching into a full series with printed and e-books to evolve the entire story. I have lots of thinking to do in the next two weeks… anyone interested in being part of the process, either writing, beta reading, promoting? Just thinking outside the box!

About Me & the “365 Daily Challenge”

I’m Jay, an author who lives in NYC. My debut novel, Watching Glass Shatter, can be purchased on Amazon @ http://mybook.to/WGS. I’ve always been a reader. And now I’m a daily blogger. I decided to start my own version of the “365 Daily Challenge” where since March 13, 2017, I’ve posted a characteristic either I currently embody or one I’d like to embody in the future. 365 days of reflection to discover who I am and what I want out of life.

The goal: Knowledge. Acceptance. Understanding. Optimization. Happiness. Help. For myself. For others. And if all else fails, humor. When I’m finished in one year, I hope to have more answers about the future and what I will do with the remainder of my life. All aspects to be considered. It’s not just about a career, hobbies, residence, activities, efforts, et al. It’s meant to be a comprehensive study and reflection from an ordinary man. Not a doctor. Not a therapist. Not a friend. Not an encyclopedia full of prior research. Just pure thought, a blogged journal with true honesty.

Join the fun and read a new post each day, or check out my book reviews, TV/Film reviews or favorite vacation spots. And feel free to like, rate, comment or take the poll for each post. Note: All written content is my original creation and copyrighted to me, but the graphics and images were linked from other sites and belong to them. Many thanks to their original creators.
