AWARD: Liebster

Posted on

I was nominated by seven wonderful bloggers over the last few months for the Liebster Award. Thank you so much for all their wonderful posts, friendship, and votes. I’m combining these together and picking the 11 best questions so I can to cover all the bases on this fun award tag. I was nominated by:

debbimack

flexireads

meltingpotsandothercalamities

dothething

annthebookmaster

aspentreesbookreviews

brizzlelassbooks

The Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
  • Indicate 11 facts about yourself
  • Answer the 11 questions the person asked you
  • Nominate 11 people (comment on their blog to let them know)
  • Ask the people you have nominated 11 questions.

11 Facts About Me

  1. I wear contact lenses because I am worse than a bat.
  2. I’m the fourth male directly in my line with this exact name, hence the “IV” after my name. Please bow before me. Just teasing. A curtsy is sufficient.
  3. I prefer spelling things the British way. I’m American. They seem better lately.
  4. I have been to Cambodia. I saw the best life has to offer. I saw the worst life has to offer. Don’t ask for details. I am not at liberty to reveal due to a… never mind.
  5. I am a reader and writer, yet I always test nearly perfect on mathematics. Took so many advanced calculus courses, I think I plotted every angle possible. I know the exact angle to send a sling shot towards… whomever deserves it.
  6. The calla lily is my favorite flower. I’d like them at my funeral please. You’re all tasked with making sure this happens or I’ll haunt you.
  7. I was a good gymnast as a kid. I could climb to the top of the rope, walk the balance beam, jump the horse and use the rings to turn myself in every direction. After puberty hit, my balance was so off, I could barely walk a straight line. A few drinks make it much better now.
  8. I used to ride horses, but it’s been almost two decades since I’ve been on one. I love it, but I see no reason to feel like I’m constantly vibrating (in a bad way, to clarify) while the wind is whipping in my face.
  9. My nickname in high school was Tooshie. You can decide why or what it means.
  10. I can’t smell tequila anymore or it will make me sick. Bad college incident. It’s okay in a mixed drink, but a shot will induce projectile, something fierce along the lines of what happened to me in question #8 below (you’re in for a treat!).
  11. I have no self control when it comes to dark chocolate or champagne. None. I will do anything for it.

Questions to Me

  • What’s your favourite drink?
    • Jack Daniels and Ginger Ale
  • If a bear and a shark had a fight, who would win?
    • Shark… I think one bite and the bear couldn’t get loose
  • Is there a sound or a word you absolutely cannot stand?
    • Anything at the dentist’s office
  • Would you rather have to say every thought out loud or hear everyone else’s thoughts?
    • Say every thought out loud. I already have too many people’s voices in my heads. Characters just won’t behave anymore.
  • What household chore do you actually kind of enjoy doing?
    • Mopping
  • What are you reading right now? Are you enjoying it?
    • Ken Follett’s A Column of Fire. And YES!
  • Harry Potter or Twilight?
    • Harry Potter all the way.
  • How long do you think it takes you to read a book? (on average, of course)
    • I generally read 1 page per minute, and that’s an average of a light cozy (2 pages per minute) compared to a heavy historical fiction novel (about 3/4 page every minute)
  • What is the number one book on your TBR now?
    • I really want to read Kate Morton’s The Lake House
  • What do you like least about blogging?
    • Formatting posts… it takes forever!
  • Do you consider blogging a hobby, a marketing tool, or a way to make a living?
    • It could be anything. For me, it’s both a hobby and a marketing tool.

Question to You

  1. Which body part would you exchange if you could?
  2. What do you like least about blogging?
  3. If you could inhabit someone else’s body for a day, who would it be?
  4. If you could have someone else’s personality and intelligence, who would it be?
  5. Where are you taking me to dinner tomorrow night? Or if that’s not gonna work for you, what gift are you sending in lieu of canceling last minute on me? Seems appropriate.
  6. Have you ever tried to count the licks to get to the center of the Tootsie Roll Pop?
  7. Did I share too much above? If yes, which item. If not, you’re my new best friend.
  8. If you could hide in someone’s pocket for a day just to see what they really do when you’re not around, who would it be?
  9. If you have an entire cake to yourself, and you know for certain that no one else will eat it nor see you eat it, would you still cut it up and serve it on a plate? Or would you dig in with a shovel? (Assume nothing bad happens to your body as a result of consuming said healthy cake)
  10. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say “bite me” ? Good or bad, let it rip.
  11. Have you met Liebster? If Yes, please describe. If No, please contribute $25 to the charity of your choice in order to successfully have completed this easy and fun quiz. Failure to do so results in an automatic replication of 10 more quizzes a day from me to you as a loving gesture of support.

Posted on

The first book to read in our Agatha Christie Readathon is The Secret Adversary, the initial novel in the Tommy & Tuppence series written by the Grand Dame. Thank you to everyone who voted for this book; I’m excited to start reading it this week. Once you’ve completed reading it (4/1 thru 4/6), post your review on Saturday 4/7, send me the link or paste in a comment in this post or the new page I’ve created. I’ll add it to the book’s page so everyone can click on it to access your review.

To learn more, you can read about it on Goodreads. If you need to purchase a copy, check it out on Amazon or visit your favorite bookstore. Happy Reading!

Background on the Agatha Christie Readathon

I’m an avid mystery reader and one of my favorite authors is Agatha Christie. I shared a post on this wonderful writer several months ago and have a dedicated page to her on my blog. Click on both links to see what I’ve read or said in the past. I’m holding an Agatha Christie Readathon in April. For more information, click the link and see the background and guidelines below. Essentially, we will read 1 book for each week in April 2018, then post our reviews.  You can join in and read with us — either 1, 2, 3 or all 4 weeks! The goal is to revisit an old favorite, connect with new bloggers, and share the love we have for this fantastic author. Voting in the pools was held from 3/1 thru 3/14, and the results are in for which books we will read in April:

  • The Secret Adversary (Other) – Read By 4/6, Post Review on 4/7 (Week 1)
  • Peril at End House (Poirot) – Read By 4/13, Post Review on 4/14 (Week 2)
  • The Body in the Library (Re-Read) – Read By 4/20, Post Review on 4/21 (Week 3)
  • Murder at the Vicarage (Marple) – Read By 4/27, Post Review on 4/28 (Week 4)

If you’re interested, please respond below in the comments with which weeks or books you want to read. I will create a separate page for each one and list all the sites where you can find the reviews. You will post the review on your site, and I’ll link it from that page so everyone can see them!

Please share with your followers so we have even more participation. Thanks!

Below is the structure and guidelines of the April Agatha Christie Readathon:

  • In April 2018, we will read 4 books written by Agatha Christie.
  • We will follow a schedule (6 days to read, 1 day to post review):
    • We read the first book from Sun 4/1 thru Fri 4/6, then post reviews on Sat 4/7. It will be from a non-series book I haven’t read.
    • We read the second book from Sun 4/8 thru Fri 4/13, then post reviews on Sat 4/14. It will be a book from the Hercule Poirot series.
    • We read the third book from Sun 4/15 thru Fri 4/20, then post reviews on Sat 4/21. It will be a book I’ve already read but I will re-read another time.
    • We read the fourth book from Sun 4/22 thru Fri 4/27, then post reviews on Sat 4/28. It will be a book from the Miss Marple series.
  • You can read only one week, a few weeks, or all four weeks — your choice.
  • Reviews/Posts can be any format, but you will link back to my main page where I will then list all the blogs or websites who are participating so that everyone can find your reviews.

About Me & the “365 Daily Challenge”

I’m Jay, an author who lives in NYC. My debut novel, Watching Glass Shatter, can be purchased on Amazon @ http://mybook.to/WGS. I’ve always been a reader. And now I’m a daily blogger. I decided to start my own version of the “365 Daily Challenge” where since March 13, 2017, I’ve posted a characteristic either I currently embody or one I’d like to embody in the future. 365 days of reflection to discover who I am and what I want out of life.

The goal: Knowledge. Acceptance. Understanding. Optimization. Happiness. Help. For myself. For others. And if all else fails, humor. When I’m finished in one year, I hope to have more answers about the future and what I will do with the remainder of my life. All aspects to be considered. It’s not just about a career, hobbies, residence, activities, efforts, et al. It’s meant to be a comprehensive study and reflection from an ordinary man. Not a doctor. Not a therapist. Not a friend. Not an encyclopedia full of prior research. Just pure thought, a blogged journal with true honesty.

Join the fun and read a new post each day, or check out my book reviews, TV/Film reviews or favorite vacation spots. And feel free to like, rate, comment or take the poll for each post. Note: All written content is my original creation and copyrighted to me, but the graphics and images were linked from other sites and belong to them. Many thanks to their original creators.
