AWARDS: Gratitude for Multiple Nominations – Part 5 of 5

Posted on Updated on

Yes! I’m all caught up and just finished my last 50 tags / nominations / awards. I’m so grateful that I now have a clean slate and can hopefully stay on top of them… woo-hoo! If I missed a tag or award where you nominated me, I’m so sorry. I had been bookmarking them, but while I was on vacation last year, I may have missed a few. Feel free to let me know and I will fix it!

***

Life has just gotten away from me in the last few months… between the 365 Daily Challenge, publishing two novels, reading ~100 books, and earning a living, I haven’t been able to keep up with all the wonderful awards that I’ve been blessed with. I’m so grateful to the blogging community for the love and support you’ve shown me and feel awful that I’ve gotten behind on about ~50 nominations or ping-backs. I’ve been trying to catch up, but it’s not working! So… I’ve decided for the next week, I am going to highlight several bloggers each day who have been generous enough to tag me…

These bloggers deserve the kudos and a celebrated mention so that more people can find out about them and/or connect with amazing people around the world. Below please find 6 blogs you should be checking out and following. I’ve included the original post they tagged me on as well as a response to a few questions or items from their tag. If I stay on schedule, I’ll be caught up and current on my tags within a week, and then I promise to try to stay on top of them going forward. Thank you to everyone for understanding. If I missed a tag or award, let me know. I will fix that! Much gratitude for sharing your blogs with me and in turn with the rest of the blogosphere!

Growing Self Blogger Award

  • Invisible-No-More
  • Thank you to Dee for this wonderful nomination. Dee was part of my first book blog tour last year, and we have shared an immense connection in the last 6 months. From all her amazing posts and challenges, to her wisdom and advice, I cherish the time we have to connect. We’re both so busy, it’s not easy to keep up every day… but at least once a week, we’re catching up on each other’s posts, getting surprised by the extent of each other’s journeys, and learning how to be better people. It was an honor to have her as part of my April 2018 Agatha Christie Readathon!
  • This award was created by Roda @ Growing Self… who many of you know as my Big Sis. She visited me from Michigan here in NYC for a few days earlier this year and we had the best time ever. I can’t even begin to imagine if Dee had been here with us… the trouble we’d have gotten into. Two wonderful women here that I’m very glad to know!

Tell the Darkness to Get Lost Award

  • Waking Up on the Wrong Side of 50
  • Thank you to LA (she shall remain nameless to everyone!) for being one of only 3 bloggers I’ve met in person this year. We’ve had coffee here in NYC and have so much fun talking about life, books, tv shows, NYC, and how to be a good person! She’s got pneumonia right now, so I hope she heals quickly as we all miss her daily posts!
  • No questions on this award, but her post talks about “love at first sight” which we have all heard of… Who here’s experienced it? Share away!

Awesome Blogger #2 Award

  • Misty’s Book Space
  • Thank you to Misty for nominating me here… she’s fantastic, and I’ve mentioned her a few times this week on the tags and awards. You’ve had lots of opportunity to check out her blog, so don’t make me remind you again. Go now! 🙂 PLEASE!
  • Two Favorite Colors
    • Black and Grey

Miranda Sings Award

  • 5171 Miles Book Blog
  • Thank you to Sabrina and Ashley who were part of my first book blog tour last year… but they also provide such amazing book reviews — what a team! I’m privileged to be part of their blogging world. It’s always a guess… will I see their Goodreads review or their WP post on a book first? 🙂
  • Something you love about yourself
    • I am determined, hard-working, persistent and motivated when it comes to achieving my goals. I don’t forget when someone helps me out. I try to give back wherever I can. And I truly feel honored to have made such great friends through my blogging adventures. I love that I recognize this and try to always make it a priority to connect with other people.

Quill Commander’s Award

  • Ravenclaw Pride
  • Thank you to Matt for nominating me. We only connected earlier this year, but I look forward to building a relationship with him. I am trying to catch up on awards, so I’m only doing one piece of his, but please check out his site via the link above. It’s a very honored award and all about our patriotism — something we should all find in our hearts.
  • Quote:
    • “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” This is only part of the quote, but who knows where it’s from??? 🙂

Blogger Recognition Award

  • TV Addicted Bookworm
  • Thank you to Sheri for always introducing me to new books and television shows. We have connected on other social media platforms more than WordPress, but it’s always fun to see what she’s reviewing!
  • Advice to New Bloggers
    • Don’t just follow someone without building a relationship. Read a few posts. Comment. Check out their other social media profiles. Interact. If not, it’s just a game in trying to increase your numbers. Find a balance between interacting and building a network of friends and followers. It’s supposed to be fun, too, so you want to learn a little bit about everyone!

AWARDS: Gratitude for Multiple Nominations – Part 4 of 5

Life has just gotten away from me in the last few months… between the 365 Daily Challenge, publishing two novels, reading ~100 books, and earning a living, I haven’t been able to keep up with all the wonderful awards that I’ve been blessed with. I’m so grateful to the blogging community for the love and support you’ve shown me and feel awful that I’ve gotten behind on about ~40 nominations or ping-backs. I’ve been trying to catch up, but it’s not working! So… I’ve decided for the next week, I am going to highlight several bloggers each day who have been generous enough to tag me…

Unique Blogger Award

  • Books Teacup and Reviews
  • Thank you to Yesha for being one of the first bloggers I connected with last year, giving me ideas for tea to try, and generally being a very friendly, open-minded, and fun blogger to interact with.
  • What in the book makes you blindly request/purchase the book (without even checking ratings/reviews)?
    • Usually just the author… otherwise I still want to know a bit about it!

Tell the Darkness to Get Lost Award

  • Momentum of Jo
  • Thank you to Jo for being such an incredibly kind, generous, and fun blogger to know. Between the inspiration she brings and the laughter she shares, this is one blogger we all need in our lives!
  • There weren’t any questions here, just a list of amazing bloggers who push through the day to help others. If you are looking for someone new to follow, this is a MUST READ post.

Awesome Blogger Award

  • Coffee Loving Bookoholic
  • Thank you to Alex for being an amazing supporter of writers and bloggers. She has truly been someone that makes me smile whenever I see her posts, she tags me on every social media platform, or shares news about her life. She’s just let us know she’s moving, too… and I’m so excited for her!
  • Do you collect anything other than books?
    • Nope! I used to collect a lot when I was younger, but now I prefer less physical things and more digital things. It’s easier to read / view / sample when you are away from home!

Miranda Sings Award

  • Des’ Random Thoughts
  • Thank you to Des for sticking with me from the beginning. We’ve shared lots of comments over the last year and on random posts and topics. It’s always good to have someone international with a really great ability to see the world from so many cultures and places!
  • Random Fact
    • I will be in Italy for 2 weeks very soon. What must I eat and drink???

Black Cat Blue Sea Award

  • The Orangutan Librarian
  • Thank you to ‘R’ (not sure if she shares her name and I don’t want to accidentally reveal it!) for one of the most amazing book blogs ever… so amazing that we’re trying to get together for tea when I’m in London in a few weeks.
  • Which bookish baddie would you least like to meet in an alleyway at night?
    • Joe from “You” by Caroline Kepnes; however, I am not at liberty to say what we’d do… given he’s a serial killer, obsessed and lovesick puppy, and book fanatic, it could be lots of things! LEAST or MOST meet — I can’t decide!

Brotherhood of the World Award

  • Misty’s Book Space
  • Thank you to Misty for being such an amazing friend, blogger, book discussion confidante, reader, reviewer and supporter. Over the last year, we touch base several times a week on book recommendations, how my books are going, what’s going on in her beauty blog, or just general life stuff!
  • What is your least read genre?
    • Science Fiction or Fantasy. I’m trying to read more in it, but I tend to like boundaries in books, and without them, I never know what to expect. I like surprises, but if there are no rules, someone can come back from the dead 5 million times, so it’s never really over. That makes me confused! LOL

Sunshine Blogger Award

  • Jacey K. Dew
  • Thank you to Jacey for connecting with me (fairly recently) and nominating me. She’s an author, too, which is always a fun connection. I look forward to learning more about her this summer when I get back from vacation and look into her books and writing. It’s always good to share someone new with my friends, so welcome to Jacey!
  • What is your favourite film and why?
    • ‘Defending Your Life’ with Meryl Street (and tons of other stars but since I adore her, she’s what makes the film shine for me)… MUST WATCH!

About Me
For those new to me or my reviews… here’s the scoop: I’m Jay, an author who lives in NYC. My debut novel, Watching Glass Shatter, can be purchased on Amazon. I write A LOT. I read A LOT. And now I blog A LOT. First the book review goes on Goodreads, and then I send it on over to my WordPress blog at https://thisismytruthnow.com, where you’ll find the revealing and introspective 365 Daily Challenge – words and humor. You can also find all my social media profiles to get the details on the who/what/when/where and my pictures. Leave a comment and let me know what you think. Thanks for stopping by. Note: All written content is my original creation and copyrighted to me, but the graphics and images were linked from other sites and belong to them. Many thanks to their original creators. Follow my blog with Bloglovin.

AWARD: Liebster

Posted on

I was nominated by seven wonderful bloggers over the last few months for the Liebster Award. Thank you so much for all their wonderful posts, friendship, and votes. I’m combining these together and picking the 11 best questions so I can to cover all the bases on this fun award tag. I was nominated by:

debbimack

flexireads

meltingpotsandothercalamities

dothething

annthebookmaster

aspentreesbookreviews

brizzlelassbooks

liebe

The Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
  • Indicate 11 facts about yourself
  • Answer the 11 questions the person asked you
  • Nominate 11 people (comment on their blog to let them know)
  • Ask the people you have nominated 11 questions.

11 Facts About Me

  1. I wear contact lenses because I am worse than a bat.
  2. I’m the fourth male directly in my line with this exact name, hence the “IV” after my name. Please bow before me. Just teasing. A curtsy is sufficient.
  3. I prefer spelling things the British way. I’m American. They seem better lately.
  4. I have been to Cambodia. I saw the best life has to offer. I saw the worst life has to offer. Don’t ask for details. I am not at liberty to reveal due to a… never mind.
  5. I am a reader and writer, yet I always test nearly perfect on mathematics. Took so many advanced calculus courses, I think I plotted every angle possible. I know the exact angle to send a sling shot towards… whomever deserves it.
  6. The calla lily is my favorite flower. I’d like them at my funeral please. You’re all tasked with making sure this happens or I’ll haunt you.
  7. I was a good gymnast as a kid. I could climb to the top of the rope, walk the balance beam, jump the horse and use the rings to turn myself in every direction. After puberty hit, my balance was so off, I could barely walk a straight line. A few drinks make it much better now.
  8. I used to ride horses, but it’s been almost two decades since I’ve been on one. I love it, but I see no reason to feel like I’m constantly vibrating (in a bad way, to clarify) while the wind is whipping in my face.
  9. My nickname in high school was Tooshie. You can decide why or what it means.
  10. I can’t smell tequila anymore or it will make me sick. Bad college incident. It’s okay in a mixed drink, but a shot will induce projectile, something fierce along the lines of what happened to me in question #8 below (you’re in for a treat!).
  11. I have no self control when it comes to dark chocolate or champagne. None. I will do anything for it.

Questions to Me

  • What’s your favourite drink?
    • Jack Daniels and Ginger Ale
  • If a bear and a shark had a fight, who would win?
    • Shark… I think one bite and the bear couldn’t get loose
  • Is there a sound or a word you absolutely cannot stand?
    • Anything at the dentist’s office
  • Would you rather have to say every thought out loud or hear everyone else’s thoughts?
    • Say every thought out loud. I already have too many people’s voices in my heads. Characters just won’t behave anymore.
  • What household chore do you actually kind of enjoy doing?
    • Mopping
  • What are you reading right now? Are you enjoying it?
    • Ken Follett’s A Column of Fire. And YES!
  • Harry Potter or Twilight?
    • Harry Potter all the way.
  • How long do you think it takes you to read a book? (on average, of course)
    • I generally read 1 page per minute, and that’s an average of a light cozy (2 pages per minute) compared to a heavy historical fiction novel (about 3/4 page every minute)
  • What is the number one book on your TBR now?
    • I really want to read Kate Morton’s The Lake House
  • What do you like least about blogging?
    • Formatting posts… it takes forever!
  • Do you consider blogging a hobby, a marketing tool, or a way to make a living?
    • It could be anything. For me, it’s both a hobby and a marketing tool.

Question to You

  1. Which body part would you exchange if you could?
  2. What do you like least about blogging?
  3. If you could inhabit someone else’s body for a day, who would it be?
  4. If you could have someone else’s personality and intelligence, who would it be?
  5. Where are you taking me to dinner tomorrow night? Or if that’s not gonna work for you, what gift are you sending in lieu of canceling last minute on me? Seems appropriate.
  6. Have you ever tried to count the licks to get to the center of the Tootsie Roll Pop?
  7. Did I share too much above? If yes, which item. If not, you’re my new best friend.
  8. If you could hide in someone’s pocket for a day just to see what they really do when you’re not around, who would it be?
  9. If you have an entire cake to yourself, and you know for certain that no one else will eat it nor see you eat it, would you still cut it up and serve it on a plate? Or would you dig in with a shovel? (Assume nothing bad happens to your body as a result of consuming said healthy cake)
  10. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say “bite me” ? Good or bad, let it rip.
  11. Have you met Liebster? If Yes, please describe. If No, please contribute $25 to the charity of your choice in order to successfully have completed this easy and fun quiz. Failure to do so results in an automatic replication of 10 more quizzes a day from me to you as a loving gesture of support.

AWARD: Blogger Recognition

Posted on Updated on

I was nominated by homemum2catspluskids and coffeecocktailsandbooks last year but with my book launch, I wasn’t able to respond. Now I am back to finishing a few tags and awards. Thank you so much for the nomination. Please check out her blog!

award.jpg

The Rules

* Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
* Write a post to show your award.
* Give a brief story of how your blog started.
* Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers.
* Select other bloggers you want to give this award to.
* Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them & provide the link to the post you created.

How My Blog Started

  • Almost two years ago, I left my full-time corporate technology position and found myself with a few months of free time, at least before I would head back to work again. Part of my professional position included managing WordPress website development, and I had done some XML and HTML coding over a decade ago. I thought I should get a bit more hands-on with WP, which led to me creating three (3) websites: (a) author, (b) this personal blog and (c) my book. I also began reading and posting my reviews on Goodreads each day. After a few weeks, I found myself meeting new people, adding more content and having a grand ole time. I had things to say and people seemed to have fun reading and commenting. It’s taken off over the last 18 months and I now have about 6000 followers between all three sites and my connected social media accounts. Thank you to everyone; I truly appreciate all the kindness and interest. It’s become part of my full-time job, in addition to writing, bringing lots of fun and depth to my life each day. And now I’m looking to build and grow in many directions, looking for guidance, advice and requests from each of you! So bring it on…

Advice For Others

  • Create the blog for yourself — not for anyone else, in the beginning. Give some thought to the things you want to say and how often you plan to share. Create content that makes you happy, as it will have more quality when you’re first starting out as a new blogger. Reach out and connect to other bloggers who share similar interests. I’ve had about a 50% connection rate, meaning half the time I never hear back from the person, but  half the time I do. And in that process, I see great styles and topics on other people’s blogs, find wonderful people to share a few minutes of fun with each day and I learn different techniques for being open, flexible and friendly. Comment all the time. Be nice. Be friendly. Open new dialogue.
  • Build check-in points. I don’t mean put in a target to have “x” followers by a certain time period. I mean… check your statistics every week or couple of weeks to learn how people are using your site. Do you have 100 views and only 2 likes? What does that mean? Do you have 100 views and 100 unique people, meaning no one is looking at multiple pages? Learn what you’re doing that people like and what they don’t like, so you can determine if you need or want to make any changes down the line. Message me if you have questions on these features. Don’t get discouraged. Over time, you’ll see growth if you’re doing all the right things. Some people hit it perfectly the first time; others take a few months. But remember, you need to start out doing this for yourself to get comfortable before you can leap frog all over the place.

About Me
For those new to me or my reviews… here’s the scoop: I’m Jay, an author who lives in NYC.
