The McGuires were a very respected and well-to-do family who emigrated from Scotland in the 1860s. A few of the McGuire children married into the royal family. Patrick, as the oldest son, was betrothed to the daughter of his family’s closest kin, and inherited a significant amount of Scottish lands upon their passing. When Patrick and Mary’s families passed on, they moved to NY to start new. They had 6 children, 3 boys (Greg, Lawrence and Timothy) and 3 girls (Mary, Calla and Dinah). Mary was always their favorite, and as their youngest, spoiled her beyond belief.
