365 Challenge: Day 253 – Walk (RYDER RANT)

Walk: a little jaunt around the neighborhood to help keep me trim

walk

No, that’s not me in the pic — just another shiba inu

It’s been quite a weekend, I tell ya. I’ve been on 3 walks in the last 3 days. I guess they mean business. I went to the groomer on Friday and had a nice long walk back and forth. Dad 2 took me on Saturday all around the neighborhood, then Dad 1 took me on Sunday before they went to the movies to see ‘Murder on the Orient Express.’ I would have liked to go, but the movie theatre doesn’t allow my kind there. How rude! I heard they liked the movie (nothing too great), but wow, did Dad 1 complain about the price of the tickets. They went to a 12:20 showing and each ticket was $19. He mumbled something about remembering when it was $7 as a child; wow, he’s older than I thought! Anyhoo… they forgot to bring me home popcorn. I was not pleased. I did enjoy my walks, but I am getting older, too. I get a little lazy after 15 minutes and prefer to stare into people’s windows. Dad doesn’t like it because he thinks I’m being nosy. He really just doesn’t want people thinking he’s staring inside, too.

The groomer was OK. My paw hurts now from getting my nails clipped. I’m walking with a bit of a limp as a result. I’m not sure if they clipped too closely or held my leg too tightly, but it’s a bit sore. I also think I am getting a cold as my nose is a little runny today. I’ve slept in bed (their bed, to be precise) until 9 every day for the last week. They’re usually up by 7:30 and so they worried I might be sick. I think I’m OK, but I know Dad 1 keeps coming over to check my nose, rub my head and cuddle. Maybe he’s not so bad after all, what do you think? They keep telling me no treats and wow, they’ve been sticking to it. I haven’t gotten any of their dinner in over a week. I got a cracker and a carrot one day, but that’s it! Maybe that’s why I am sick… not enough good food. They promise I’ll get some on Thanksgiving, but that feels like FOREVER!

We worked on addressing Christmas cards yesterday. Or to be precise, Dad 2 worked on Christmas cards. I just stamped them all when he was done. Dad 1 doesn’t have time for that right now, nor is he thinking about the holidays yet. He’s got a few more days on this book blog tour and then he can settle down again. He’s getting a bit repetitive and grumpy about it, too. I know he loves it, but he feels like he needs to talk about something else so as not to bore everyone. He told me he’ll finish book 2, Father Figure, this week and do a final read through before it goes out to the beta readers. That sounds fun… but he also said there weren’t any doppelgangers for me in this book. How rude!

I need a nap. Have a lovely Thanksgiving week and please say hello to all my pet friends. -Ryder

I decided to start my own version of the “365 Daily Challenge” where since March 13, 2017, I’ve posted a characteristic either I currently embody or one I’d like to embody in the future. 365 days of reflection to discover who I am and what I want out of life.

The goal: Knowledge. Acceptance. Understanding. Optimization. Happiness. Help. For myself. For others. And if all else fails, humor. When I’m finished in one year, I hope to have more answers about the future and what I will do with the remainder of my life. All aspects to be considered. 365 Challenge: Day 239 – Growl (RYDER RANT)

Posted on Updated on

Growl: the noise I make when I am unhappy

IMG_2917

Growl! And that kicks off this fine Monday morning. First of all, I was promised a walk yesterday, but I did not get one. The lazy a$$ I call Dad 1 kept pushing it off all day because it was raining (and since he just gave me a bath, he didn’t want me to smell from getting wet), telling me to wait just a little longer. It drizzled on and off all day, so by the time the sun began setting, he said it was too late and he would take me today. I was displeased and ensured he knew it last night as I growled at everything: at the people on the roof, at the people yelling on the street which I could hear up here on the 12th floor and at the Dads just to teach them a lesson. Just wait til you find out why I was going on this little walk — not out of the goodness of his own heart, I’ll have you know.

Anyways… I slept in a little this morning, just got out of bed and wandered into the living room. As I look outside, that rain is coming down again, which means I probably won’t get a walk again unless it stops. GROWL. I’m sure you’re asking: “why is Dad offering you a walk a bad thing?” So… let’s roll time back a little bit. My grandparents came over this weekend to visit, as they usually do every other weekend. Dad 2 was away on a business trip so it was just the three of us. Normally Grandma brings me lots of treats and and I get to eat whatever I want when she visits. She did bring me a very tasty peanut butter and bacon treat from her trip to Pennsylvania, which coincidentally is where I was adopted from 10-years ago. I ran around like a whiny little brat (I admit my faults) because it was too big to eat and I wouldn’t let anyone break it into pieces. This went on for 30-minutes until finally Grandpa helped me so I could eat it.

But then a terrible awful thing happened. I heard Grandpa whisper to Dad, “Ryder’s putting on a bit of weight.” Dad looked at me and said, “oh, you’re right, I hadn’t noticed.” It was an amusing few minutes as Grandma teased Dad about him blaming her for giving me all the treats. She whooped him something fierce over it (in a funny way), but I haven’t seen them in 3 weeks so it couldn’t be them. Poor Dad, he got quite a bit of torture from his parents over it. He deserved it though. I admit it. I have put on a few additional teeny tiny specks, as I need to bulk up for the winter. I will fix it and I don’t need anyone to tell me how.

That’s when the terrible awful happened… Dad used the word “diet.” GROWL! I did not get any of their pork roast for lunch. I did not get any of their chicken pot pie for dinner last night. I did not get any other treats. Dad 2 got home and I curled up against him on the couch. I told him I loved him and how mean Dad 1 was. Dad 2 didn’t agree with me. He sided with Dad 1 and said “Yes, I think we need to cut back.” Dad told me I get nothing for 1 week and I am going for more walks. That’s why a walk is a bad thing. It’s not out of the goodness of that monster’s heart. He claims he loves me and doesn’t want me to get sick or to age more quickly because I’m putting on an extra ounce or pound or two pounds… we’ll stop there because GROWL. I’m going back to bed. Please someone do something about this?

365 Challenge: Day 169 – Doghouse (RYDER RANT)

Posted on Updated on

Doghouse: (1) a place where a dog sleeps, (2) a place you go to when you are in trouble

dog

Feels like Groundhog Day. Every time I wake up lately, this laptop is sitting where my food bowl is supposed to be. And instead of getting to eat, I’m forced to type away for a few hours, coming up with some brilliant little “Post from Ryder.” I just hope you all realize the torture I go through simply so you have a few minutes of reading material. And all I ask in return is for my own space, a doghouse, where I can close the door and ignore the world around me for a few hours each day. But do I have one? No. Why, you ask? That’s a good question. Dad 2 wanted to buy the materials to build one. But Dad 2 doesn’t have those types of skills. Dad 1 might be able to build it, but he said things like “permission from the building,” and “are you gonna help?” Do you see what I live with? I have this lovely Enchanted Terrace outside and it would be amazing to retire for a few hours every afternoon where I can relax and have a cozy little sleep. I’ll keep working on them, but if you have any pull over Dad 1, please assist. I promise to make my posts even better.

So today’s word has a few meanings. I was in the doghouse again last night for something I have little control over. I am a food addict. I can’t NOT eat food when I see it. So I begged and begged for some of their dinner. They had beef cooked in a brown sauce in a giant orange Le Creuset pot in the oven. With carrot and potatoes and onions, and a whole bunch of deliciousness. Something about wishing autumn would arrive sooner. I don’t know. I just wanted the foods. There were 3 big pieces of meat in the pot. I assumed one for each of us. But Dad 1 said no, that the third piece was for lunch the next day. But I pushed and persisted and eventually they filled my bowl with some people foods, even though Dad 1 said it was a bad idea. Then it happened. It always happens. I can’t help it. After I eat the food, I run around whining that it hurts in my belly and I throw it up all over the floor. You remember that infamous rug I mentioned a few weeks ago? Yeah, happened again. It’s not my fault. They gave it to me! But now I’m back in the doghouse ’cause they said no more food for a week. Is there an emoji for a sad dog? That’s me. But today I get to see Grandma and Grandpa. They are coming for a visit. They always sneak me food. And I am never in the doghouse with them.

I am getting worried that I may have to put the dads in the doghouse soon. I heard them talking about a puppy again. I protest. I turn 10 years old on September 3rd and I’ve been an only dog for the last 5 years. I had a sibling my first 5 years, but she isn’t around anymore. (‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ has always been my policy. The dads think I am a Republican, but I’ll never tell.) Anyways, don’t you think I deserve to not have to put up with another dog in the house? Seriously… I don’t like them. They make messes. Rambunctious. Take all the food. Shed. Oh… wait… that’s me… now I think I understand why Dad 1 is always yelling about my fur babies rolling across the floor like dust bunnies. Mmm… rabbit. I’m hungry. Oh, off topic again. So no puppies allowed. They don’t get it. If they bring one home, I’m moving out. Does anyone here have a good home they want to share — two rules: (1) food all the time and (2) no other dogs. I might be OK with a cat. Or smaller animals I can eat. No birds either. They are mean.

I decided not to post pictures of me today as I don’t have a doghouse and until I get one, no pictures! But also because something happened with the link from the laptop to the iCloud and the pictures won’t open. Dad says he’ll fix it soon, but he’s so busy these days, who knows when he’ll get around to it. For now, he just hangs around the house all day long. I kinda love it. Both Dad 1 and Dad 2 used to leave around 7:30 am and come home at 7:30 pm. Twelve hours to myself is a lot. I would meet my friends for lunch at the French restaurant downstairs (they serve my kind thankfully). I’d go for walks. I’ve asked for a doggy door so I can get out to the terrace by myself, but that hasn’t happened yet. They don’t want me out there alone. I guess I can understand that. I do chase the birds and jump higher than they’d like. But now Dad 1 is home all the time. I don’t want him to go back to work. I like the company. But don’t tell him that! He’ll get an ego. OK, it’s time to get all cleaned up before Grandma comes. I’ll tell you more about her next week. Love you all! xoxo Woof!

This is what I’d do with my doghouse!

RECOMMENDED BLOGGER

  • Ryder has gotten to know so many bloggers over the last year, he’s decided to recommend one to each of you during his Monday posts. This week, he’d like you to meet Vinnie. Vinnie and I met somehow (don’t recall!) about three months ago, probably over a movie review one of us wrote. He’s big time into films, but that’s only one part of his blog. He’s a really genuine and caring guy, always sharing of himself and interacting with his friends and followers. He’s had some great advice to me over the last few months, but also has been encouraging and promoting bloggers he is friends with too. An all-around guy, he’d be a great addition to your WordPress Reader. And doesn’t he look cool in the pic with sunglasses below? If you don’t believe me, you can see a blurb from the site’s About Me section below:
    • “Who is Vinnieh? That’s a tough question but here’s what is known.  From a very young age cinema has been one of the biggest things in his life. Snapshot_20140612_1He loves the absolute hell out of movies and would probably die if there were none in the world. He’s just the typical young man; smart, interesting, devilishly handsome(OK the last one may be a lie). He is sometimes known as Vinster or Satrap. The aim of my blog is to write about the movies I have seen and hear feedback from the many other’s who populate the blogging world. Feel free to stop by and comment on my posts.”
