About Me

Basic Bio & Background

I’m your average guy, live in New York City and have created this blog to get more social with other great people.  I grew up on Long Island in the state of New York and graduated from Moravian College, an historic but small liberal arts school in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with a B.A. in English and minors in Education, Business and Spanish.  If you’re curious, you can check out my various social media links at the bottom right of this page and you can also see a picture of me by clicking here.

After college, I accepted a technical writing position for a technology company during Y2K.  I spent nearly 20 years focused on building a career in technology & business operations in the retail, sports, media and entertainment industries. Click here to see my other website where you will find my resume, portfolio and professional blog.  Throughout those years, I wrote some short stories, poems and various beginnings to the “Great American Novel” but I was so focused on my career in technology and business that writing became a hobby.

After leaving my position over the summer, I directed all my energies towards re-invigorating a focus on reading, writing and publishing.  And that’s where a big piece of my mind is these days…

Reader & Reviewer

Reading has also never left my side. Whether it was children’s books, young adult novels, college textbooks, biographies or my ultimate love, fiction, it’s ever present in my day. Check out my Goodreads profile to see what I’m reading, what’s on my “to read” list and all the groups I’ve joined. I read about 2 to 3 books per week and I’m on a quest to update every book I’ve ever read on Goodreads, write up a review and post it on all my sites and platforms.

Writer

Writing has been a part of my life as much as my heart, my mind and my body.  At some points, it was just a few poems or short stories; at others, it was full length novels and stories.  My current focus is family drama fiction and cozy mystery novels. I think of characters and plots that I feel must be unwound.  I think of situations people find themselves in and feel compelled to tell the story.  It’s usually a convoluted plot with a few surprise twists and turns.  I feel it necessary to take that ride all over the course.  My character is easily pictured in my head.  I know what he is going to encounter or what she will feel.  But I need to use the right words to make it clear. I want to write stories and summaries and ideas and action plans to help someone figure out what they want or need.  I want to be available to help work through an issue or come up with next steps in figuring out a solution. I want to design a future that makes someone excited, happy and proud.

Genealogist & Researcher

I want to be a researcher or historian.  I want to reach back into the past to figure out why someone made the choice he or she did and what the consequences were.  I want to feel the pressures and culture of hundreds of years ago. I want to trace the roots and find the puzzle of my own history.  I want to watch my ancestors from a secret place to know how they interacted with others; and maybe I’ll learn why I do things the way I do them.

Blogger & Thinker

I am an avid reader and writer who has combined his passions into a single platform where I share book reviews, write a blog and publish fiction. I want to do all of these things and these are all the things that make up who I am.  None of them are very fancy or magnanimous. But they are real.  And I know what attracts me to them.

Depending on how you stumbled upon this site, I may be someone you know in real life or I may be someone you want to get to know.  In the end, I hope you enjoy my site… To learn more about the content on the site, click here.

[…] You can learn more about me on my profile here or my personal webpage where you will see my own book reviews, samples of stories I’ve written and the first two chapters of “Watching a Glass Shatter.” Hopefully this will give you a taste of what I am capable of and you will be interested in providing a few hours to read my book in the hopes of enjoying your read and providing me with some good direction for where to focus next. I have been surrounded by strong and emotional women all of my life and feel that I can write a novel in this genre given the relationships I’ve developed over the years. I majored in English and have been writing in my day job (non-fiction) for nearly 20 years. I’ve also written a few other books, short stories and poems, but have been too busy working a day job to try to get anything published. I am now focusing on entering the publishing world with a goal to launch 1 or 2 novels in 2017. Click for BIO. […]

Anything from before 2015 was always buying a paperback, unless I adored the author so much that I’d buy the hardcover as soon as it came out. In 2016, I started trying some books as electronic reads and entering giveaway contests to win books, but I’d also buy from either Barnes and Noble in person or as paperbacks thru Amazon.

In 2017, I switched to NetGalley and sometimes buying the authors I like who aren’t on there. About 50 percent on my iPad thru Kindle Reader and 50% as physical books. I like both, depending on time of day. And you?

NetGalley? never heard of – how does that work?

As for e-books, I don’t use, as am too busy using social media to build up potential following for when I self-publish.

Hard copies are my love, but feel guilty that I should be writing whenever I have time to sit. Mostly I use those for waiting in line sorts of situations.

Mostly listen on cd – which I get from public library.

I should take a look at something you’ve published!

As for NetGalley, it’s a distribution center of sorts, where you can order books (e-books usually) to read in advance in exchange for a review. You don’t pay for them, but get advanced opportunity to read. I’ve gotten great books by big time authors there.
